It all started with a dream. A dream to visualize my blood sugar on my wrist and not have to constantly get my phone out to see what it was. I have Type 1 Diabetes, you've probably read that already or seen it in other posts here on this site. I have been a CGM (Continuous Glucose Monitor) user for a long time now and really love the tech. In the early days, you there was an official app for my CGM on the Apple Watch, but it had a really slow refresh rate (WatchOS limitation) and you still didn't really even get a full day of battery 🪫 ☹️.
I thought, well, I'm a dev, maybe I could write something for FitBit. I had always been a fan of FitBit's ecosystem (calorie and exercise tracking) and I knew they had an accessible SDK and it was all just JS. How hard could it be (I always hear Jeremy Clarkson here...)? Well, like any good dev, I searched first to see what existed already and I found Glance.

This is a really cool watch app for FitBit that is basically piggy-backing on the CGM's Follower API (although you can use other data sources). There are a ton of features that I didn't personally end up using, but all that to say, this was an awesome solution and one I've used for many years. At the time, I had a Versa 2 and this was a great fit for me.
The great thing was, it just worked. The update rate was good (i.e. it didn't miss BG updates), the FitBit battery life was 5+ days, I could control any music on my phone via a simple BT remote app, and then...Google bought FitBit.
